Police say the SMS was a violation of a strict restraining order. The man in his 20s was out on trial release after being convicted in April for threats, vandalism and repeated violations of a restraining order by a family, newspaper Troms Folkeblad reports.

The conviction stated that the family's quality of life had been greatly reduced by the man's repeated, crass harassment, and so police reacted immediately to the text message. The man is now remanded in custody for four weeks.

"Violating a restraining order is a serious event. Even one text message is, in a case like this, a so serious violation that we have used the measures at our disposal to let people feel they are safe," said sheriff Arnold Nilsen.
