Since the introduction of the GSM in Nigeria in 2001, it has really made life easier for people, talking about saving costs and time. It has also given hope to a lot of Nigerians without jobs, as they now use GSM as a means of earning money, that is , about call centres as small scale business.

The GSM has several unique packages which are meant to make life easier. According to some communicatin experts, the GSM phone could be very helpful in times of emergency, not withstanding the network being used. This can be done by dialing the code 112 and your mobile will search for an existing network in order to establish the emergency number for you. In searching for an existing network, it could be for any type of emergency be it hospital emergency, in times of theft when you need to alert the police and even in the case of fire outbreak.

This is why this code should not be neglected or taken for granted. For those who have problems either in trying to recharge their phones or whatever problem, depending on the network, each service provider has its customer care unit ,this unit is to take care of any problems pertaining to the use of its own network. So it is best if each subscriber knows the customer care unit number of his/her service provider in case of an emergency as well.  For V-mobile we have 111 as the customer care number , GLO 121 and MTN 180 and some others, so just try to know these numbers they will go a long in helping you.

This is why experts say it could be a life saver or an emergency tool in the time of trouble This fact however is not known by most people ,as the GSM is seen by some individuals as a tool used in just answering an receiving calls.

It is also an interesting fact to know that, every newly purchased GSM set has an international code number from where it is manufactured known as the International Mobile Equipment Identity(IMEI)so don’t be afraid of phone thieves, if stolen you can just display these on your set #06# and send, that does the magic. As a 15-digit number will appear on your screen which is only peculiar to your phone, then simply call your service providers and give them the number and the phone will be blocked thereby rendering it useless to the thief.
