GPRS based Visual radio ahead of its times?

GPRS based Visual radio ahead of its times?: "Is India ready for visual radio? With the service - personalised radio requests with video clips on mobiles - yet to find many takers, a vigorous marketing campaign is set to popularise this paid service.

Radio Mirchi, India's largest private radio network, launched visual radio in July in Delhi with Hewlett Packard and Nokia. A connection with Hutch (Hutchison Essar Limited) or Airtel along with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)-enabled mobiles enable the reception of visual signals."

Push-mail over GPRS may be next big thing

Push-mail over GPRS may be next big thing: "Are you a mail addict who doesn’t have pockets deep enough for a mobile e-mail device? If yes, there’s good news. The mobile industry believes that after SMS and MMS, the next big wave will be ‘push-mail’ devices that automatically receive all your e-mails by connecting to your mail server.

So far, such devices were used only by the corporate elite. Now, the ‘trickle-down effect’ of competition means that even BPO yuppies and college-goers might own one."

And, going by the current trend, the country could have around 500 million subscribes by 2010.

But with a diverse population, what is the profile of the `average Indian mobile consumer?' "

Ubiquitous WiFi? Not Here

Ubiquitous WiFi? Not Here: "I've been thinking a lot about EV-DO recently. Not because I'm using it. Quite the opposite. I'm not using it. That's the way I've been thinking about it -- just like a thick steak when you're hungry or that cute tennis player when you're a love-sick teenage girl.

That's because I've been traveling - moving among three northeastern towns ranging from happening Portland ME, to Binghamton, NY -- heartland of upstate New York's economic disaster -- to Honesdale, PA -- a tiny town just out-of-reach of the Pocono vacation crowd. In between I've been in several airports."

Location, Location, Location

Location, Location, Location: "Pardon the expression, but Judson C. Green, CEO of digital mapmaker Navteq Corp. , insists his company is pointed in the right direction. The Chicago tech company etched a reputation selling maps for the navigation systems in luxury models from General Motors Corp.'s Cadillac Escalade to BMW's 7 Series sedan. Now some auto industry customers are mired in a sales slump that's dragging down orders of Navteq gear. Still, Green believes the company will 'really take off in the future.' "
