GSM Association Gains 100 Million New Subscribers In The Americas

3G Americas, the association representing the European-developed GSM mobile phone standard, announced that nearly 100 million new subscribers signed up for GSM technology in the Americas in the past year.

Noting that market research firm Informa Telecoms & Media has reported that 2 billion of the world's 2.41 billion cellular subscribers were in the GSM fold, 3G Americas pointed to heavy GSM growth in Latin America and the Caribbean as major drivers of the growth.
