When such information is
stored, over a period of time, may create many privacy problems as
this data is private information and cannot be shared to
unauthorised persons.
However, Lane’s First
Law of information states that, “If information exists in one
place, it exists in more than one place.” Corollary: “If
information exists anywhere, no matter how carefully guarded, it
exists somewhere else, where virtually anyone can gain access to
it.” (Carol Lane, 2002). Which
emphasises the point that, when such information is stored, it is
bound to be tampered and gained access by some unwanted parties.
Information warfare is defined by (Dorothy E.
Denning, 2001) thus, “Information warfare consists of offensive
and defensive operations |

against information
resources of a ‘win-lose’ nature.” Which means no matter how
defensive mechanisms are deployed by the information defenders, the
offenders get access to it and use this information for offensive
purposes which makes the offender win and the defender lose in terms
of financial lose, public confidence etc.
Therefore Christian Hauser and Matthias Kabatnik,
(2001) are justified in saying that there is a fear of LBS services
building up user profiles which may eventually cause a lot of
privacy problems.
